DevCon Bai was only too happy to oblige the request for speakers for the 1st UC-ICT held at the Cebu Coliseum last February 15, 2013. While UC has pioneered the IT education in Cebu and has been making landmarks in its 30 years in IT, this was but the 1st ever ICT event in the university.
I was given the honor of speaking to the 2000-strong IT students of the University of Cebu (UC) in the 1st ever UC-ICT. That’s from 3 campuses of UC – UC Main, UC Banilad and UC-LCM.
The one thing that I learned in my 1st day of work as a software engineer is that the studying and learning never stops. I had expected that though.
However, if there is anything I wished I had then, it would be for some insider tips on what to expect when one joins the IT workforce. This was where my short talk centered on – Software Development in the real world. Hopefully, I was able to share some valuable insights the students can look into so they are better prepared in their bid to join the IT industry.
Other speakers in the event included DevCon Bai’s Third Tiu who talked about “(Front-End Development) FED in a Nutshell”, PJ Parreno who championed for mobile development via his talk entitled “Mobile Development: Why go for It” and lastly, UC’s very own homegrown Val Enriquez who introduced DevCon PH and it’s local arm, DevCon Bai to the UC community.
Hopefully, this would be the 1st of many activities with the UC community 🙂
Thank you to the UC community, especially Ms. Moma Ortega and Mr. Melvin Ninal 🙂
