I look like my Mom but act like my Dad. I know he would have been proud if I told him that.
The need to solve things (and crosswords!), finding humor even in the most dire situations, the love for travel and nature, a voracious reader – these are things I got from him. Definitely.
Dad has been gone for almost a decade now, yet I still find inspiration with how he led his life.
Success for him was never about money or land or even power at work. Success for him was being able to send us all to University and equipping us with the right education. His success was our success, so to speak.
Happiness for him was always with the little things in life. Getting to solve the day’s crossword puzzle and reading the news after, his black coffee after an afternoon’s nap, sharing his dry jokes which often means you have to think about the hidden message, receiving his favorite cologne, getting his picture taken when he wants his picture taken 🙂
He was a simple man who made it through life on his own – a working student, a hands-on fold your sleeves teach them how to do it leader, a son and brother who helped as much as he can, a father who sacrificed working away from his family to afford us attending good schools, a doting grandfather and so much more.
I can only wish I would be half the person he was.
