The National Wallace Monument is tower dedicated to the 13th century Scottish hero Sir William Wallace whose heroic acts was brought to life by Mel Gibson in the movie Braveheart.
The climb to the top through winding stairs took roughly 250 steps ( according to wikipedia, it is 246 steps) but the view was just worth it. It was really cold and cloudy and there would be gusts of winds that would blow from time to time so we had to keep our time there to a minimum but boy was I glad I got to see this view!
The monument also has what are believed to be Braveheart’s things including the Wallace sword which is taller than me at 5’4″. Braveheart must have been really strong to be able to wield such a long sword weighing roughly 3 kilos.
It opened its doors sometime around the year 1869 and admission is free! Its official address is Abbey Craig, Hillfoots Rd, Stirling FK9 5LF, United Kingdom
