Musings

choosing to remember

When someone leaves or is taken away from us, they normally leave a hole in our hearts, in our lives. In some cases, they get filled up easily. In others, they end up like that small gnawing part of our hearts that simply never heals.

But life moves on. It may slow down but it moves on. So how we deal with that hole is up to us.

Some choose to forget.

Avoiding places and things that remind them, that bring back memories. Disposing of things that remind us. Afraid that the tears will well up and sadness and anguish will creep in.

Some choose to remember.

Revisiting places where there were happy memories. Reliving experiences by continuing habits and redoing beloved activities. Talking about past stories and moments.

Either way, we deal with grief and loss differently. Different paces, different tactics.

Me, i choose to remember.
