Fossil Rim Wildlife Center in Glen Rose, Texas was not something I expected. By its name alone, I had envisioned seeing fossilized dinosaurs on the drive to the center.
Nonetheless, I was pleasantly surprised with what it had to offer. A self-guided drive in the 6.88 km² wide endangered species research and conservation center was possible! And to top that, you can feed the giraffes while you are at it … using their officially sanctioned food of course. Of course, my sister did all the driving 😀

It felt like an upgraded zoo with the animals being able to freely roam around, except for the top predators like the cheetah and the rhino which were kept in pretty large enclosures. Large enough that they can run through them, so that’s all good on that end.
Why visit ?
The animals, a little over a thousand , feeding the giraffe from your hand, and you can help with the conservation of endangered species effort. For more details on the center, please check out their website : https://fossilrim.org/.
