fresh produce at (near) farm-level prices. when my mom heard about it, i knew i would not hear the end of it (from my sister) if we did not go there at least once. and so off we did, one fine saturday morning.
much to my mom’s delight, the prices were really too good to be true and she had a grand time just buying vegetables and fruits. as designated driver and kargador, i had to go back and forth to the car to deposit her purchases lest i strain my shoulders with all that weight 🙂
the farmer’s market located at SRP is the brainchild of former cebu city mayor tommy osmeña and his party, bopk. the idea is to bring the prices down of fresh produce by cutting the middle man. this means more money for the farmers as well. on top of that, they now provide free shuttle to and from mambaling, cebu, free parking as well as free carts you can use while shopping at the market.
i hope the farmer’s market will evolve to have not just veggies and fruits but include plants and flowers as well. hopefully, this endeavour survives and becomes an institution at some point while it helps the marginalized and small farmers get more bucks for their hard work.
