overseas tales

12 July 2015

somewhere above the clouds, enroute home.

i am not particularly chatty with strangers, especially on planes. this is because i normally would like to get some zzzs in between meal servings.

this time around though, i was not lucky enough to be seated to someone who wanted to do the same. initially, it was just a casual, where in cebu are you? and of course, once you do the initial pleasantries, it all came rushing out.

in just under an hour, i learned that she got married to a briton but now lives in perth. that she has dual citizenship and ends up shuttling between cebu and perth and everywhere in between. she has been to a lot of places like UK, US. she owns a spa and she likes to treat her employees like her friends, treating them out occasionally. she has been to the worth mentioning resorts in cebu and has houses in talisay and minglanilla. her mom is now 82 years old and refuses to have a housemaid live with her. she recently got duped by her driver who she later found out was into drugs and got her into an accident late last year. all her children are now on their own but she still loves having them over for dinner from time to time. her children except one are now married, all to non-filipinos.

while she did not necessarily just talk about her life, she did throw a few questions my way like if i was married or not. and since i was not, i should get married to a foreigner, probably as a way of saying ‘it did me good, should be a good way’ for you. she had other advices like treating your staff well so that they will treat your business like their own. that, even if people will abuse you, to learn to deal with it but not to lose faith in people.

she was in fact a pretty sensible woman, who was just eager to share her blessings by way of stories 🙂
