while not born in cebu, i practically spent most of my life here in the queen city of the south. but as is the usual case, one has the tendency to take things for granted when one believes they are quite accessible.
gabii sa kabilin as organized by RAFI is a good way to get cebuanos and wanna-be cebuanos acquainted with the city’s history and culture.
while the museums are a far cry from other historic and major cities around the world, it still served as a good starting point for us to get intrigued about what happened in the past, how they lived, how they suffered, and how they celebrated life.
we opted to go with the (mostly) walking tour capping with a tartanilla (horse-driven carriage) ride to fort san pedro. it was a fun and learning experience. delighted to know that cebu city has its own obelisk, sad to know the fate of leon kilat who got butchered by his friends to save carcar, awed with the beauty of the antiques – home, religious relics, money, certificates, exercise bicycles and what have yous, a yes! moment with the realisation of how small Dr. Jose Rizal really was, and overall, just happy to have this experience with friends 🙂
