Endangered Spaces

it is not uncommon to hear of species of animals being put into the endangered species list.  and much of this has been traced to the destruction of their natural habitat.

even within the cities itself, the residents are losing open spaces where people can do leisurely walks, quick family picnics, playtime with dogs and other pets or train for athletic events. and these are what i call the endangered spaces.

while the rest of the world seems to be getting better at urban planning, not much can be said about how it is being done here in the metro cities of Cebu.

there is not that many parks to speak of. trees are being cut to give way to the construction of roads and buildings and subdivisions.  the ayala group may be one of the few exception for its drive to incorporate nature into much of its developments. but it is after all a law of supply and demand.

the government should step up its efforts in ensuring we have little pockets of greenery in the urban cities unless we are really aiming for a concrete jungle. it should not always be about economics. it should be about preserving nature as well and being wise about how we use our natural resources.
