macau: a city of contradictions

macau.  a city which is both old and new.  cold and warm. bustling yet seemingly quiet.
yes, a city of contradictions.

while i did read about avoiding going to macau on weekends, we went on anyhow.
the incessant nudging and impatience of the passengers to get their day started in macau was just incredible. the long and noisy queue to the ferry, through the immigration, gave me a glimpse of how aggressive you may need to be to battle it out with a billion people in order to get a ahead.

glimpses of old macau are still lingering. in the quaint streets, in (preserved) old buildings, in their lovely pavements.

the new macau is meant to dazzle, an open invitation to stay and spoil yourself with lavishness. hotel lobbies so grandiosely set, mimicking how it must have been in the renaissance when the best artists and artisans were all set to please the eyes.

while not having had the chance to taste portuguese food, the requisite egg tarts, porkchop buns, beef tapa and dimsum did not disappoint at all.

and to counter macau’s cold weather, it was warm with christmas cheer 🙂

but in the end, the company we keep is what matters most.

as they say, it is the journey and not the destination 🙂
