after handing my parking ticket to the security guard, i had expected the usual and emotionless ” thank you ma’am”. last night was different though. what i got was a “thank you ma’am. ingat!” and he said it like he actually meant it. it was almost like how JLC (a famous filipino movie actor) says it in his tv commercial. but then again, he is probably a JLC fan 😀
ingat! this has got to be one of my favorite words in the Filipino language.
it is not only what it means but how one actually says it.
loosely translated, it conveys a concern or care for the other person, to be careful as they go about their way.
i have not heard the word uttered where it lost the note of concern 🙂
